A rocket booster for an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile overturned on Thursday, July 31, 2008, in Makoti, N.D. The incident occurred when a truck carrying the booster tipped over in northwestern North Dakota. The Minuteman III is an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) under the control of the Air Force[1][2]. The overturned truck and rocket booster were nearer to Makoti, a farming community of about 145 people, and there was no danger to the public[3]. The Minuteman III missiles are part of the nation’s strategic deterrent forces and are assigned to Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota[4][5].
