  1. Hey man, awesome! I will let them know they are featured here – and cool custom buttons too. I used to have blogspots and they all died because Google delisted their own blogging platform, but you can try to get on Bing through their Webmaster Tools. Google is fucking up hard so I guess the popularity of DuckDuckGo (uses Bing index) and Brave Search (own index) is going to rise, and we gotta wait to see what EU is cooking with its Open Source sovereignty plan – with some luck perhaps Mullvad Leta is resurrected.

A cool thing about Neocities is it social features of profile and feed, so it helps discovering other Neocities, however we are in a small bubble here – I’ve been trying to explore more the Nekoweb bubble. You just gave me the idea to link other cool sites and resources from outside those bubbles, tons of stuff I use and recommend like The Internet Archive for example. Gonna work on a new section there soon.

    1. Cool! For search, try Mojeek, too. Saw recently that newsi8.com is not delisted from there which may mean that is still a way to find more real sites. I eventually deleted my old blogspot site and posts, thinking perhaps the same titles over there were what was causing my new site to get no traffic, where google says, “oh, we’ve already seen that,” but eventually I logged in to my google console and saw the reason, “crawled not indexed” which is, as far as I can tell, like them saying, “we just don’t want to send you humans.” Ask any SEO people that spam your email if they can fix “crawled not indexed” and the answer is, “Oh, sorry, no.”

Man, I hope you are right. The web was a blast back in the day, hope it makes a return in some real way. Way back, I’d go into some place and people I didn’t know would recognize me and say they’d seen my (old) blog. My band would write songs back then about Internet legends and people would tell me their funky strange stories, which sometimes made it into songs as well. Met and played with some really great musicians too. Good to meet you, drop a comment if you find something good. I’m going to look around for other rings of sites like this and perhaps link them here. Still having fun with all the creative stuff on the neocities sites, plenty to explore.

  2. P.S. About the avatar (icons) on comments: They are based on just your name, currently, not anything else. I did this to increase privacy when I realized all the calls to Gravatar.com could act like beacons, following people around the web. So, if you see an avatar that is not yours, that is because the newsi8.com privacy system skips your regular gravatar.com icon on purpose.

Also, if you prefer a different banner, I’ve hard coded the ones here, again to reduce tracking. This is not probably technically cool with web rings, you are supposed to let them track, but I prioritize privacy for what I do on this site. Thus, if you have a replacement 88px wide by 31px high banner, let me know in a comment and I’ll swap it above. – X
