Mar 28, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has now claimed at least 30,938 lives with 670,522 confirmed cases world wide. We can’t keep up with the updates so we’ve added a new live sheet above.

Mar 27, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has now claimed at least 27,376 lives with 599,563 confirmed cases world wide. This puts the overall official world wide death rate at 4.56% compared to a 10 year average 0.1% death rate for the flu. The USA jumped nearly 20% in one day to 104,973 cases (more testing) with 1,694 deaths. So far the death rate in the USA is about 1.6% but it is just taking off here. In Italy, where they are about a month ahead, the death rate is over 10%.

The two year Spanish Flu pandemic took 50 million lives. World War II claimed up to 85 million lives. For perspective, if 25% of the 7.7 billion people in the world today were to get this, 1.94 billion would be infected and with a 10% death rate 194 million lives would be lost around the world.

Mar 26, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has now claimed at least 24,181 lives with 534,386 confirmed cases world wide. Today it the first day where over 1/2 million people have contracted the virus. The USA has taken the lead, with more confirmed cases (85,010) than any other country (unless China has not been giving correct numbers, which many suspect.) There will be financial support to employees, businesses and hospitals. Testing is now available in all 50 states and 552,000 tests have been completed. A point of care test may be ready that gives results in 15 minutes. Original SARS Antibody assays (ELIZA tests for IgG) will work on detecting this virus, but companies are working on faster point of care tests as are used for HIV tests. For those, you put a drop of blood on a cassette and it tells you if you are positive. For those with symptoms, self-collection by a swab from the front of the nose is now approved. Millions of gloves, gowns, face shields, N95 and surgical masks are on the way as well as more ventilators. Record unemployment claims have been recently filed, but there are also new jobs. Amazon is hiring 100,000 additional warehouse workers due to demand and others are adding jobs for a total of almost 1/2 million. The USA is just now figuring out, based on the data on the ground, the asymptomatic transmission rate reality and they are considering using granularity in test results to help counties isolate the sick from the non-sick.

Mar 24, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has now claimed at least 21,430 lives with 475,271 confirmed cases world wide. The death rate in Italy has now passed 10%. Help lines are open around the world if you need to talk to someone. Keep hope. Even in Italy, the country with the second largest number of infections after China, odds are still greater than 89% that you will survive if you get sick.

Mar 23, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has now claimed at least 18,995 lives with 423,867 confirmed cases world wide. Italy tops the world with 6,077 total deaths from the virus and a death rate of currently 9.86%. In other words, about 1 in 10 people who get the virus there die from it, mo stly those who are older and have existing health issues. They have not yet, according to Dr. Giovanni Guaraldi in Northern Italy, seen anyone who recovered become positive again, so that’s some good news. Three countries on the BNONews ticker show a 50% death rate. This is most likely because some of the world’s poorest countries have only tested in a few cases and if they have 2 positive cases and 1 dies this is a 50% death rate. How many people were tested in Zimbabwe, Sudan and The Gambia? At this time the world population is nearing 7.8 billion people and the number of people born each day is still more than double the number of people who die. Exponential population growth projections put the human population at over 10 billion people (10,874,902,318) by the year 2100. Due to land resource limitations, the maximum number of people our planet could support was estimated at 10 billion … if they are all vegetarians, according to Harvard University sociobiologist Edward O. Wilson.

Mar 22, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has claimed at least 14,730 lives with 343,275 confirmed cases world wide.  This virus, SARS-CoV-2, seems to be able to survive outside of the body and suspended in the air for up to 3 hours. Avoid crowded places. It was also still infectious on cardboard surfaces after 24 hours, so disinfect your clothes and shoes after you return home and disinfect all new items arriving at your home. Thirty days ago, on 2/22/2020, there was 1 death in Italy. Today there are 5,476. Contrary to WHO guidelines which call for mass testing, the US and other countries are still only testing ill hospitalized patients.

Mar 20, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has claimed at least 11,485 lives with 277,500 confirmed cases world wide.

Mar 19, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has claimed at least 10,179 lives with 246,735 confirmed cases world wide. The 1,000 bed USNS Comfort arrived in New York harbor to help with the spreading situation with thousands of confirmed cases in New York state where “shelter in place” are being considered and may roll out soon. The governor of California has issued statewide stay at home orders after predicting 56% of Californians will get the virus in the next 8 weeks. We could be wrong, but with a population of 39,937,489, if the death rate stays constant as it is now at 4%, that’s a very depressing 894,599 deaths in California alone .Tests for the virus in the USA are announced as free due to legislation passed by Congress, but they are still in short supply.

Mar 18, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has claimed at least 8,232 lives with 204,405 confirmed cases world wide.  US President invokes wartime authority of Defense Production Act to speed coronavirus aid. This 1950’s act can force US companies to make products to help the “war” effort.

Mar 17, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has claimed at least 7,970 lives with 199,584 confirmed cases world wide. Keep in mind that at this point 81,109 people are listed as having recovered. New laws in the UK give police the power to arrest and and put them in isolation facilities “if necessary to protect public health.” .

China’s quarantine has saved more than 100 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions from entering the atmosphere—which is about the equivalent of what Chile produces in a year.

Mar 14, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has claimed at least 5,819 lives with 155,317 confirmed cases world wide. A top Ohio official estimates that over 100,000 people in that state now have the virus.

Mar 13, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has claimed at least 5,408 lives with 144,954 confirmed cases world wide. Note that 64,111 people are listed as recovered as of today in China. Over 51% of deaths from the virus have been in China so far. In the US, the president declared a national emergency; schools in 12 states shut down; cruise lines halted.

Mar 12, 2020 – Now China is saying that calling the virus by its city of origin is slandering China. If the virus didn’t come from someone eating a snake in a market in Wuhan China, then where? The Global Times of China says researchers think it came from “another place” to the market. Another city? No one knows yet. Does anyone at the “Wuhan Institute of Virology” which is only coincidentally 45 minutes away from the market in Wuhan, and which was only coincidentally researching coronaviruses transmitted by bats have information to refute that the virus first entered humans in Wuhan, China? We note that scientists from several countries who have studied SARS-CoV-2 denounce conspiracy theories and “overwhelmingly conclude that this coronavirus originated in wildlife,” just like many other viruses that have recently emerged in humans. Is it more factual if we call it the Bat->Snake->Human Virus?

Mar 5, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has claimed at least 3,309 lives with 96,274 confirmed cases world wide. Telegraph.co.uk published a story on  that the virus has mutated from the less deadly “S” strain into a more deadly “L” strain and that it is possible to have both at the same time.

Mar 4, 2020 –  Flu a bigger threat than new virus, experts warn – The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that an average of up to 500,000 people die annually across the globe due to the flu. …  William Schaffner, a vaccine expert at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, told Kaiser Health News (KHN): “When we think about the relative danger of this new coronavirus and influenza, there’s just no comparison. “Coronavirus will be a blip on the horizon in comparison. Feb 28, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has claimed at least 2,924 lives with 85,183 confirmed cases world wide. Confirmed asymptomatic carrier of SARS-CoV-2.  Woman confirmed positive on February 6, 2020 and reconfirmed as still positive on February 19, no symptoms other than mild elevation of liver enzymes after 10-day treatment with antiviral drugs lopinavir/ritonavir. Research question: Since the virus binds to ACE2, do ACE-inhibitor/angiotensin-receptor blocker drugs increase expression of ACE2 receptor in the virus targeted cells, putting the patient more at risk? (In animal experiments both the ACE-inhibitor lisinopril and the angiotensin-receptor blocker losartan can significantly increase mRNA expression of cardiac ACE2).

Feb 20, 2020 –  Based on 55,924 confirmed laboratory cases, symptoms include “fever (87.9%), dry cough (67.7%), fatigue (38.1%), sputum production (33.4%), shortness of breath (18.6%), sore throat (13.9%), headache (13.6%), myalgia – muscle pain or arthralgia – joint pain (14.8%), chills (11.4%), nausea or vomiting (5.0%), nasal congestion (4.8%), diarrhea (3.7%), and hemoptysis – coughing up of blood or blood-stained mucus (0.9%), and conjunctival congestion (0.8%).” The conjunctiva is the tissue that lines the inside of the eyelids and covers the sclera (the white of the eye).

News: Bill Gates has stepped up to make a huge contribution to fight this virus. The Bill and Melinda Dates foundation will donate up to $100 million “to improve detection, isolation and treatment efforts; protect at-risk populations in Africa and South Asia; and accelerate the development of vaccines, drugs and diagnostics.”

News: An AI predicts that the Coronavirus could infect 2.5 billion and kill 53 million, but it probably won’t. (Forbes)

News: Tencent briefly lists 154,023 infections and 24,589 deaths from Wuhan Coronavirus with a date of 2/1/2020. Probably just an error? It has people wondering.  (Source)

 

Feb 4, 2020 – The Covid19 Coronavirus has claimed at least 492 lives with 24,553 confirmed cases world wide. Most fatalities (479) are in Hubei province, China (including Wuhan) at this time. SARS-CoV-2 was shipped from CDC to the BEI Resources Repository that supplies organisms and reagents to the broader community of microbiology and infectious disease researchers. You can theoretically catch the coronavirus multiple times, creating an unusual challenge for health officials trying to contain the outbreak.

Jan 25, 2020 –  A doctor Liang Wudong,  at Hubei Xinhua Hospital reportedly died from the disease. The death toll is 56 with over 1,900 people confirmed to have the disease. Businessman Kyle Bass tweets that a husband and wife Chinese spy team were recently removed from a Level 4 Infectious Disease facility in Canada for sending pathogens to China’s only Level 4 lab in Wuhan. This had over 13.6K likes on Twitter but CBC reporting never claimed the two scientists were spies, or that they brought any version of the coronavirus to the lab in Wuhan according to a Yahoo Story.

Chinese authorities have suspended air and rail travel in the area around Wuhan. The Department of State ordered the departure of all non-emergency U.S. personnel and their family members.

Jan 22, 2020 –  China Quarantines Entire City as Deaths from Mystery Virus Almost Double in 24 Hours. The first Chinese patient to recover from a new deadly virus, Mr Huang, 23, works in a train station, had treatment in the intensive care units in Wuhan. CDC received a clinical specimen collected from the first U.S. patient infected with SARS-CoV-2. CDC immediately placed the specimen into cell-culture in order to grow a sufficient amount of virus for study.

The SARS-like Chinese corona virus, being called the Wuhan Virus, has resulted in the quarantine of the entire city of Wuhan, population of 11 million people. The situation in the quarantined cities is very tense at times. One video showed women fighting over food in a market with everyone wearing masks. Other reports said there is plenty of food in the stores and people are remaining fairly calm, but obviously concerned.

Dec 1, 2019 – First known patient started experiencing symptoms on 1 December 2019. He had not been to the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market of Wuhan.

Nov 17, 2019 – The original case, patient zero, possibly, of the novel coronavirus emerged according to official Chinese government sources. He appears to be a 55-year-old from the Hubei province, but the disease was not recognized at that time.
