Well, think about it. Back in the Obama days, was the world ready for “disclosure” that intelligent aliens exist and that our leaders have long known it? Is it ready now? We are a bit preoccupied at the moment, trying to survive, but if aliens could lend a hand, that would be a great way to open relations.
Here is small compilation of quotes from U.S. presidents on UFOs, extraterrestrial life on Earth, and in space, including historical references back to the era of early airship sightings:
U.S. Presidents on UFOs and Extraterrestrial Life: Verified Quotes and Context
Harry S. Truman (1945–1953)
Truman’s presidency saw the start of modern UFO lore, notably the 1947 Roswell incident. When asked by reporters about flying saucers, he joked, “Only in the newspapers.” When pressed further, he humorously referenced the “moon hoax” suggesting skepticism or dismissiveness of the sensational claims at the time. He convened military aides to discuss the surge in UFO sightings, reflecting early government concern though no official confirmation of extraterrestrial life was made.[2][3]
Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953–1961)
While direct public quotes from Eisenhower on UFOs are rare or unconfirmed, there exist persistent claims (not officially verified) about secret meetings with extraterrestrials during his presidency, though these remain in the realm of conspiracy rather than established fact.
John F. Kennedy (1961–1963)
JFK never publicly claimed knowledge of alien life but expressed strong interest in space exploration during the Cold War space race. He famously trusted the U.S. Air Force’s assurance that “UFOs pose no threat to National Security.” He focused on advancing space technology, famously pledging to land a man on the Moon.[3][7]
Jimmy Carter (1977–1981)
Carter openly acknowledged witnessing a UFO in 1969 prior to his presidency: “It didn’t have any tangible form; it was merely a very strange-looking light” and recalled it changing colors and disappearing. He pledged during his campaign to release all UFO-related information if elected and asked NASA to investigate UFOs during his term. Yet he later said, “I have never thought and still don’t think it is possible for creatures from Mars to visit us.” He also explained a UFO is simply “something we haven’t identified,” often experimental aircraft or misidentified phenomena.[1][4][2][3]
Ronald Reagan (1981–1989)
Reagan was a well-documented believer in the possibility of extraterrestrial life. He described a personal UFO sighting in the 1970s while flying in a small plane: “I looked out the window and saw this white light… We followed it for several minutes… and then it went straight up into the heavens.” He later posed a famous question to Soviet leader Gorbachev: “What would you do if the United States were suddenly attacked by someone from outer space?” Reagan suggested a hypothetical alien threat could unite humanity. He publicly acknowledged the existence of UFOs but never confirmed alien contact.[5][9][1][3]
Bill Clinton (1993–2001)
Clinton expressed cautious interest, stating “I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, but the odds are that there is some form of life out there.” He admitted curiosity about UFO files and even hinted at possible recovered alien bodies: “NASA even sent Chuck Berry’s music into space.” Clinton also mentioned investigations into UFO sightings but publicly acknowledged that no definitive evidence of alien visitation was confirmed.[6]
Barack Obama (2009–2017)
Obama maintained a skeptical but open stance. He commented, “There’s no evidence of any extraterrestrial life and no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public’s eye.” He joked on Jimmy Kimmel Live about the excitement of alien secrets never matching expectations, and said, “The stuff going on that’s top secret isn’t nearly as exciting as you expect.” His administration declassified documents related to Area 51, but no alien confirmation followed. He also said, “I don’t know and I don’t presume to know” about life beyond Earth, emphasizing prioritizing life here on Earth.[1][2][3]
Donald Trump (2017-2021, 2025-)
President Donald Trump has expressed a mix of skepticism and openness about UFOs and extraterrestrial life. In a 2024 podcast interview, he said, “I want to talk to you about aliens, UFOs, UAPs… I have met with serious people who claim there are some really strange things flying around out there.” Trump added, “It’s very possible there is something. And why wouldn’t there be?… Here we are, one relatively small planet. Why wouldn’t there be, on a planet that’s 400 times the size, something, somebody?” However, he also stated, “Do I believe it? Not particularly,” showing a cautious stance. He hinted that some information might be hidden, saying, “I guess so. You have the deep state.” He has also acknowledged the famous Roswell incident, describing the topic as “very interesting,” but has not revealed details or confirmed any insider knowledge about it.
Joe Biden (2021-2025)
President Joe Biden once said in a 2021 town hall, while discussing public trust and science, “Whether those aliens are here or not, you know, who are the people they talk to beyond the kids who love talking about it?” This was used rhetorically to illustrate how people seek trusted sources for information, not to state personal belief in aliens. The White House has consistently stated there is no indication of aliens related to UFO reports which was shot down and turned out to be likely a spy balloon from China. Biden has addressed aerial phenomena with caution and emphasized national security, but has not confirmed any extraterrestrial existence or government cover-up[9][11][12][13]
How Can They not Know EXACTLY What They Shot Down?
This irks me. The U.S. military did shoot down several unidentified high-altitude objects in early 2023, including one over Alaska and another over Lake Huron, but “recovering these objects proved difficult.” For example, the Lake Huron object was recovered by Canadian authorities only after a brief search; however, other search efforts, such as for the Alaska object, were eventually called off due to harsh weather and low chances of full recovery. The recovered debris was analyzed and suggested to be consistent with balloons used for weather monitoring, scientific research, or private use, but definitive identification remains inconclusive publicly.
Have they no sensors, or fly-byes or… This makes no sense!
The U.S. military is equipped with advanced sensors such as radar, infrared (FLIR), video cameras, and other detection technologies to monitor unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). These systems help track objects’ size, speed, altitude, and other properties before any engagement. The decision to shoot down objects, such as those in early 2023, was made when the objects were deemed to pose potential risks to civilian aircraft or national security.
In other words, the military relies on various sensor inputs and intelligence assessments before shooting down aerial objects, but full physical recovery and complete identification may not always occur promptly due to practical limitations.
No complete identification?! Are you kidding me? This is a very frustrating answer. What really happened? Did we try to “shoot down” an alien probe and then it vanished?
The reality is that “complete identification” is difficult to guarantee, not due to negligence, but because of the inherent complexity of detecting, tracking, and recovering unknown aerial objects in a large and varied operational environment. It is not a matter of shooting at alien probes and letting them vanish but a careful balance between caution, available information, and national security priorities.
Moreover, reports indicate bureaucratic and coordination challenges exist within defense and intelligence agencies, which can slow or complicate the comprehensive analysis of these phenomena. These difficulties are known and are being addressed through new offices and congressional oversight aimed at improving transparency and data sharing.
Other Notable Historical References
Early Airships (Late 1800s to Early 1900s)
Prior to formal UFO terminology, mysterious airship sightings occurred across the U.S. in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These were reported as flying craft not attributed to known human technology but do not appear in presidential quotes. These airship reports predate the modern UFO era and remain part of folklore and early aeronautical mystery rather than presidential discourse.
General Douglas MacArthur (Not a president but influential figure)
Quoted in 1955 as saying: “The next war will be an interplanetary war. The nations of the earth must someday make a common front against attack by people from other planets. The politics of the future will be cosmic, or interplanetary.” This reflects early Cold War-era speculation on extraterrestrial threats.[1]
In summary, no U.S. president has confirmed the existence or visitation of extraterrestrial beings on Earth, though several have personally reported UFO sightings and publicly supported scientific searches for life beyond Earth. The official stance has consistently been that there is no credible evidence of alien contact, while remaining open to ongoing exploration and discovery.
