  1. I am interested in establishing a Donor Fund/Foundation in my husband’s and my name for ongoing support of NPR,. but I can’t find details about such giving: What is the minimum required? How do I actually set up such a fund? …and other pertinent details.

    1. Hello Dr. Woods,
You can set up a donor-advised fund (DAF) in your and your husband’s names with a minimum initial contribution of about $10,000 at national providers like Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, or National Philanthropic Trust. The process is pretty simple: you choose your fund’s name, fill out an application online, make your contribution (cash or appreciated assets), and then recommend grants to NPR or any other nonprofit whenever you like. DAFs offer great tax benefits, flexibility, and the option to recognize your fund on gifts or stay anonymous—plus, all the legal and administrative work is handled for you. If you’re considering a larger, named endowment directly with NPR, their philanthropy team can guide you, but for most ongoing giving, a DAF is a straightforward, customizable option.
