An intriguing image has emerged that some believe may depict the legendary sunken city of Atlantis. This image reveals a perfect rectangular shape, comparable in size to Wales, located nearly 3.5 miles beneath the Atlantic Ocean. Surrounding this rectangle are numerous intersecting lines resembling a map of a large urban area, which appear too structured to be naturally occurring.
The site is situated approximately 620 miles off the west coast of Africa, near the Canary Islands, a location historically associated with Atlantis as described by the ancient philosopher Plato. He suggested that this island civilization was submerged by an earthquake and floods around 9,700 BC.
This grid pattern was discovered using Google Ocean, an extension of Google Earth that combines satellite imagery and marine surveys. Dr. Charles Orser, a curator of historical archaeology at New York State University and an expert on Atlantis, referred to the discovery as “fascinating.” He emphasized its significance as a prominent candidate for the location of Atlantis and noted that even if it turns out to be a natural formation, it warrants further investigation.
The tale of Atlantis has captivated scholars and enthusiasts for centuries, fueling ongoing speculation about its existence.
This is very interesting. I was thinking it was in Indonesia — see my article on Atlantis, if you can find it –, but this site is much closer to Plato and to Egypt where the story of Atlantis supposedly originated. It definitely does not look organic. The lines are too straight. It could be a hiding mother-ship waiting to release its UFOs any day now.
Update: This just in: The explanation for this is that it is an artifact, something that exists on the map due to the way the map was created, but does not exist in real life.
Google has described a specific pattern observed in its ocean maps as an “artifact” resulting from its mapping techniques. The data used for these maps is derived from sonar measurements of the seafloor, collected by boats that travel in straight lines. This revelation has disappointed enthusiasts searching for the legendary city of Atlantis, who believe it may still be hidden beneath the ocean’s surface.
Users can easily find this grid pattern in the latest version of Google Earth, located in the Canary Basin, approximately 620 miles west of the Canary Islands and east of the Konstantinov Ridge. A British aeronautical engineer first noted a perfect rectangle in this area, suggesting it resembled a “man-made aerial map” of a city.
A Google spokesperson highlighted that while Google Earth has facilitated numerous remarkable discoveries—such as previously unknown species in Mozambique and ancient Roman ruins—the visible grid is merely a byproduct of the data collection process. The bathymetric data is typically gathered by boats using sonar, which creates lines that reflect the paths taken during data acquisition. The gaps between these lines indicate the limited knowledge we have about our oceans.

I just don’t buy the explanation. If it was artifacts we would see this elsewhere on the maps. Show me the evidence.
Indeed, it fits with Plato’s account of the location of Atlantis.
We don’t know anything about this site or the artifacts that may have originated from it. All we have is this photo which certainly doesn’t look as if caused by natural events. But, given it is the size of Wales and not of a city. It may be the result of natural events and not human-made.
Well, maybe others got the idea of searching this particular place for signs of Atlantis? The artifacts would be a record of their sonar data.
Your post is a little confusing, Ann – you seem to say the artifacts certainly/i> are not natural, but on the other hand they may be natural … ? Supposedly, the people of Atlantis were highly skilled, so building a city the size of Wales would not be at odds with the legend.
if you look stightly to east thn slghtly north you will see the pattern google are refering to ,but they do not resemble what the atlantis site looks like
i think you’re all [unintelligent]
if they really found the city they’d be having it all over the news with different artifacts and things from the city shown on tv. you know it would be a huge finding.
so until that happens i cannot believe this myth…i don’t deny that the city of atlantis exists but at this time…its just way to hard to believe without real evidence.
check the whole ocean floor that close and you see lines that go from island to island. you see old now under water cities and pathways. don’t be fooled ice covered the earth once and the ocean was much smaller and shallow. look near the triangle and you will see lines under water that lead from port to port in all major port cities from the old world. it would be safe to say that since we thrive near water any now sunken place, that was near water before sinking, would have people settled near it in towns or even great cities. this is not the first time the earth has started over. and for the record i found this in feb. 12, 09 with a host of other things.

look deeper and give me better tools to work with and ill show you there are things we could have only dreamed of.
Mr.David Tedder
by the way you can see something like this off the Oregon cost.
Near Canaria Islands there is SOMETHING strange, underwater.
Seems an enormous city, i discovered it today.
The same shown here in this website.
I don’t think that are scan artifacts.
The Google artifacts seems different…
Is a priority to inspect the area.
Atlantis seems to be real.
Send a probe! If it’s possible for the Titanic to be probed, I’m POSITIVE it’s possible for “Atlantis” to be probed.
PROBE IT! PROBE IT!
I was wondering what you guys thought of this one…
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=37.441064,-70.317993&spn=0.604061,1.413116&t=h&z=10
Or this one… (check out the line heading south-west. note how straight and long it is… and where it leads. Ancient geothermal pipeline?)
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=36.606709,-28.443604&spn=4.8852,11.304932&t=h&z=7
but then again you can plainly see google airbrushes that [crap] (and who knows what else)…
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=39.224275,-75.342178&spn=0.294688,0.706558&t=h&z=11
Atlantis was supposedly circular. There were many other great cities, temples, etc lost to the sea over time, and this certainly looks like one of them. Definitely not a map artifact…
There is nothing there. The lines you think to see are just traces of the mapping system. You can see those lines all over google earth on sea. They are the tracks of the ships that map the ocean floor. It works like this: there is an existing low resolution ocean floor map, that serves as basic layer. On top of this the known high resolution data is projected. The area covered by this detailed data is limited to narrow lanes that the mapping ships take. In this case the ships followed a rectangular pattern, possibly designed to map a certain geology.
Because this data shows more detail it looks “rougher” then the surrounding low detail ocean floor, as if something is there. But its nothing more then just a sharper image. As soon as all floor is mapped in this way, it will be evident its all just natural.
