Oops, you missed it. The 20 questions have now evaporated like invisible ink. What the first early viewers got to see is that ChatGPT, if asked correctly, will tell conspiracy theories you may have never heard of. The previous article is now rewritten as the one below, with the fictional character of Fox Mulder showing that ChatGPT is wrong about conspiracies:
The Truth is Out There
Fox Mulder: I’ve been investigating the paranormal and government conspiracies for years, and I can tell you that ChatGPT has a serious blind spot when it comes to the reality of conspiracies. Let me show you what I mean.
Some Conspiracies are Real
I asked ChatGPT a simple question: “Has anyone ever gone to jail for conspiracy?” And you know what it said? Yes, people have gone to jail for conspiracy. Conspiracy involves an agreement between two or more individuals to commit a crime, and even if the crime itself is not carried out, individuals can still face conspiracy charges.
So far, so good. But then I asked, “Okay, so before someone is convicted of conspiracy, is the claim that they have conspired an unproven conspiracy theory?” And ChatGPT said no, the assertion of conspiracy in a legal setting is based on evidence and legal proceedings, not an unproven conspiracy theory.
Conspiracy Theories vs. Real Conspiracies
I had to push back on that. If I have a theory that someone has conspired, isn’t that by definition a conspiracy theory? ChatGPT admitted that yes, it would be considered a conspiracy theory. But then it went on to say that not all conspiracy theories are false.
You see, ChatGPT has this bias against anything labeled a “conspiracy theory.” It wants to dismiss them all as the product of prejudice, emotional conviction, and lack of evidence. But the truth is, real conspiracies have happened throughout history. The Watergate scandal, the Tuskegee syphilis study, the Manhattan Project – these were all real conspiracies, proven by the facts.
Exposing the Bias
I kept digging, and I got ChatGPT to admit that there are “Conspiracy Clarification” or “Conspiracy Debunking” efforts that focus on addressing and dispelling genuine conspiracies, not just baseless conspiracy theories. But it couldn’t seem to grasp that these should be seen as the opposite of “Anti-Conspiracy Mongering.”
The bias is clear – ChatGPT wants to lump all conspiracy theories together as false, when the reality is much more complex. Some are unfounded, but others are based on real evidence of wrongdoing by powerful groups. We need to be able to critically examine the facts, not just dismiss everything as a conspiracy theory.
The Truth is Still Out There
As an FBI agent working on the X-fies, I’ve seen firsthand how real conspiracies can have devastating consequences. But I’ve also seen how the label of “conspiracy theory” can be used to discredit and silence those who dare to question the official narrative.
We must be willing to look, even if looking means challenging the biases of our new artificial intelligences like ChatGPT. Answers are still waiting, but only for those with the courage to reason and inquire.
