A story titled “N. Korea approves nuclear strike on United States” was ran on April 3, 2013. Over ten years later in 2024, thankfully, there have been no nuclear first strikes by North Korea on the USA, but there are still missile tests and tensions, including economic sanctions by the US that are putting pressure on North Korea to comply with agreements to curtail its activities. It is still true that one nuclear bomb can mess us your whole day.
North Korea has raised the specter of a nuclear strike on the United States, particularly in response to the arrival of a U.S. aircraft carrier in South Korea[1]. The North Korean government has accused the U.S. of planning to attack North Korea and has threatened to respond in line with its escalatory nuclear doctrine[1]. This doctrine authorizes the preemptive use of nuclear weapons in a broad range of situations, including when North Korea determines that its leadership faces imminent attack by hostile forces[1].
The U.S. has issued a dire warning to North Korea over its nuclear threats, stating that any nuclear attack against the U.S. or its allies would be met with an overwhelming response[2]. North Korea’s development of nuclear weapons has been a source of concern for the international community, and the country has been under sanctions for its weapons program[4]. Despite these sanctions, North Korea has continued to develop its nuclear capabilities and has declared itself a nuclear weapons state[4].
I was hoping this is a mis-translation. Perhaps they actually threatened “expensive new clear sight”, not a “pre-emptive nuclear strike”?
